Across decades of practice, Gu Yue has worked at the intersections of geography, culture, and identity, transforming lived experience into a sustained exploration of boundaries. Shaped by his movement between Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, his work engages traditional cultural lineages, everyday perception, and critiques of globalization through a distinct visual language.
As Gu Yue's first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, Boundaries presents key works from the past twenty years across seven thematic sections, spanning sculpture, installation, and painting. Highlights include Laocoön, which juxtaposes Greek mythology with Buddhist imagery; the Screen Reading and Game Space Series on screen-based life; and Deconstructing the Original, which reconfigures classical literature. Together, these works frame boundary as both method and condition. Balancing reflection and transgression, convergence and independence, within an evolving cultural landscape.
